Основной целью создания сайта WordsByExample является помощь в чтении и написании текстов на английском языке. Сайт имеет самую большую (на сегодня) базу Англо-Русских параллельных текстов: более 160 книг - 250,000 соответствий, которая все время увеличивается. Соответствия установлены как на уровне абзацев, так и на уровне предложений внутри абзацев, что позволяет довольно точно найти соответствие.

Поиск в базе данных параллельных текстов

Наличие большой структурированной базы параллельных текстов позволяет WordsByExample выполнять поисковые запросы, когда запрос задан по-русски, а результат выдается в виде небольших англо-русских соответствий. Эти соответствия, будучи цитатами известных авторов английской литературы, смело могут быть использованы Вами при написании текстов на английском языке. Например, Вы задаете запрос, как показано ниже, и найденные фрагменты текстов выводятся в в виде таблицы:

Web site WordsByExample was created to help in reading and writing texts in English. There are more than 160 books - 250,000 relations in the database of the site (the largest database, for the time being). Relations are on both levels - paragraphs and sentences. It makes the search more accurate.

Query in database of parallel texts

With the large base of parallel texts WordsByExample accepts queries with search criteria given in Russian. The answers are english/russian pairs. Since those pairs actually are fragments of human qualified translations, you receive the unique possibility to see how your query can be said other way. From other side, you receive citations of great English authors, so you can savely use them in your writing. For example, you enter query, as shown below, and you get:

Чтение английских текстов и ваш словарный запас на сайте

Вы можете несколькими кликами определить, сохранить и изменить на сайте ваш словарный запас, т.е. список английских слов, которые Вы знаете. После чего WordsByExample может выделить цветом слова, Вам пока еще незнакомые, или вывести их список без повторений, для каждой главы теста, книги, вашего собственного текста и пр. и пр.

Речь идет о том, чтобы сделать продвижение в чтении на английском языке в подлинике максимально легким и эффективным:

когда Вы читаете книгу на английском языке и обнаруживаете незнакомое слово, Вы находите его значение в словаре и, либо «надписываете» его значение, либо надеясь на память продолжаете чтение. Если незнакомых слов на странице много (15, 20,...), то приходится выписывать эти слова на карточки или в список, что отнимает массу времени. Более того, потом в этих карточках приходится копаться, это опять время и силы... На нашем сайте Вы можете сэкономить и то и другое
облегчение чтения состоит также в возможности во время чтения посмотреть перевод (параллельный текст) и, тем самым, снять вопрос: - "Правильно ли я понял данный фрагмент текста?". В случае необходимости, это место можно отметить с помощью "пометки" (note). Сам параллельный текст может быть показан явно или отображаться только по клику. Таким образом, неправильное понимание не будет закрепляться и мешать впоследствии
Вы можете добавлять к вашему словарному запасу новые слова, в том числе и большими списками (например, все слова некоторой главы книги, всей книги или всех книг, какого-нибудь автора), сохранять копии в любой момент и т.п.

You can save and update your vocabulary on the site, i.e. list of english words you know. WordsByExample taking your vocabulary color words you know differently from words you don't know yet, marking out words you want to pay attention to. At any time you can get list of them for each chapter, book, your own text, etc.

Making process of reading and vocabulary acquisition more easily is our main task:

Let's say you read a book in English and there is an unknown word. You look for it in a dictionary and either write its translation above this word or just continue relying on your memory. When there are (15, 20,...) unknown words on the page, you have to write them down on cards, lists, etc.
Very time-consuming task, isn't it? And what if you need to increase your vocabulary by 1000 words? Let's see the common procedure:
- An unknown word was occurred. Find the proper translation in dictionary and continue.
- After fifth, sixth word you discover that the first one was forgotten. Prepare a card, write down a value and continue...
- This kind of work requires a lot of time. The computer dictionary doesn't help too much.
- It can be comparable with spreadsheets (Excel, etc). When you need to calculate one, two formulas, it can be done with simple calculator. But if you have 50 and more data with formulas, spreadsheet is vital for you.
- The same is regarding vocabulary. If you need to find translation of several words, a regular dictionary can be suitable. Otherwise if you need to increase your vocabulary by thousand of words or more WordsByExample can be right choice for you.
You don't have to do anything like that on this site. On this site you can highlight an unknown word (generally with 2-3 clicks of mouse) and doesn't matter how many times it was used and where it was used, all it's instances will be highlighted!

It is very important, since the most frequently used words from those you want to know are placed at the beginning. explanations?
